City of San Diego Advanced Water Purification Facility Tour Photo by Christine Harvey

Leopold was under contract for environmental consulting services to support the pre-design efforts for the City of San Diego Pure Water Program.  Leopold reviewed environmental constraints and assisted with environmental assessments (EA).

The Pure Water Program is a 20 year purification water plan designed to supply safe, clean water to San Diego County.  This will relieve demands on one of our most precious natural resource.  Currently, San Diego uses approximately 400 millions gallons of water per day (MGD) and imports 80-85% of its water from Northern California and the Colorado River.  The purification process will  deliver approximately 15 MGD by 2023, 83 MGD by 2035 ultimately reducing our dependency on imported water by up to 36%.

A one hour guided tour of the City of San Diego's Advanced Water Purification Facility (AWP Facility) includes a short informative 15 minute PowerPoint presentation covering the background of state, interstate and local watersheds, a brief description of the facility and purification process, and California counties and countries who have successfully implemented similar programs.

The AWP Facility guided tour can be arranged at the link provided below.  Monthly tours fill quickly so please plan accordingly.
